Taking a leave of absence

• Sometimes you need to pause your studies — for health, family, or personal reasons. On F-1 status, an unauthorized break can terminate your SEVIS record.
• A formal leave of absence, coordinated with your DSO, may let you pause without losing status — but options are limited.
